Farm Stand Making It’s Return on 6/17 & New CSA Program

It’s that time of year again! In the upcoming weeks you may see our flyers posted around the neighborhood or our IG page filling up with more reels —and all of these things signify one exciting thing: the beginning of yet another farm stand season! We are grateful to say that this will be our sixth season operating the stand, and the third season doing it out of RBAC’s very own Growth Center. Our first farm stand this year will be on Saturday, June 17th at the usual 10am start time at 9059 MLK Jr. Way S.

At this location, RBAC is also currently working towards constructing the Food Hub and having it completed at some point in July. According to Kerry White, Food Hub & Farm Stand Manager, “It will have dry storage, cold storage, vegetable washing station, etc. Our goals are 10-15 community partners and farmers, 20 CSA customers and we will increase free produce distribution by 10%”.

As the work we’re doing in the neighborhood is expanding, so is our team! We are so excited to welcome two new employees this year. The first one is Cly Samson (she/they) who is our Farmer Support Lead. A large part of their role consists of going out to our various farm partners and helping them out with planting, harvesting, or anything else they’d like assistance with. The next person is Beatrice Shimirimana (she/her), who you may remember as being one of our dedicated farm partners for the past two seasons. She grows her produce out of Horseneck Farm located in Kent, WA and is now joining RBAC as the CSA Coordinator!

On that note, have you heard that in the first week of July, we’ll be bringing a CSA program to Rainier Beach?! If you didn’t already know, CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. This is a way for residents in the community to receive weekly produce boxes for a small fee and support their local BIPOC farmers. No worries if you can’t pick up your box in-person, because we will be offering delivery services straight to your home and a variety of payment methods. Here’s the link to sign up if you’re interested!

These are just a few of the many things to be pumped for this summer. We will continue to grow our existing partnerships and establish new ones, host more fun events, and even release a new merch color! Be on the lookout for more announcements as we get deeper into the season, you won’t want to miss out!
