These photos show what people think things are until they look from another perspective. There are things that we think of as being ugly or bad, but looked at in another way they are positive images — about things being better than they first seem. They also tell a story about looking at the things you see every day in a new light — things that you don’t notice because they are always there. When you really notice them and pay attention — they are meaningful and have something important to say. These photos show the importance of perspective — are you looking at something close up or are you looking at something with more of the big picture focus? When you shift your perspective, it creates a different idea. That’s when the title came — Rainier Beach: Focus from Another Lens
Sometimes we think all learning happens inside a school room. Sometimes teachers come in from outside the community and they don’t see all that a community has to offer that helps students learn.
